NICHE ၊၊||၊ Sholto Dobie & Alanas Gurinas, Elena Laurinavičiūtė, Simonas Nekrošius
In its third cycle, the NICHE contemporary electroacoustic music concert series will invite visitors not to its usual location - the spaces of Kaunas Artists' House, but to various architectural objects in Kaunas, where visitors will be offered guided tours before the concerts, as well as exclusive talks by Algimantas Grigas (from the initiative ”Ekskursas”), the curator of the tour programme, and other tour guides.
The second concert of the cycle will take place on 7 May at the Central Palace of the Lithuanian University of Sport. The programme will include three sound performances - artists Sholto Dobie, Alan Gurin, Simonas Nekrošius, and Elena Laurinavičiūtė will open up the fields of experimental and performative music. All artists use sound as a material, creating self-made instruments, sound sculptures, and ephemeral installations.

▋ Alan Gurin and Sholto Dobie: two Vilnius-based artists collaborate in a sound performance where air and paper become the main instruments. Using objects they have created, they invite you to experience an invisible sonic architecture pulsating with sine tones, chirps, and noise. The performance maintains a delicate balance between performer, listener, and space, in a constantly changing interaction with time and objects. The duo will present their debut album, Hiss of Light, soon to be released on the British label Infant Tree.
▋ Simonas Nekrošius: during the evening, you will hear the programme Paraobjects, which is not only a concert but also an exploration of how sound can change, transform, and lose its usual form. The live sound performance is performed using self-made sound objects, combining unconventional methods of sound generation and experimental creative principles. Nekrošius's performance is a live, intuitive experiment in which everyday objects become sonic mediators between the viewer and the environment, and sound itself becomes an experience that exceeds technical or aesthetic parameters.
▋ Elena Laurinavičiūtė: the interdisciplinary artist will present a unique synthesis of sound and ceramics - experimental aerophonic sculptures that whistle, hum, and vibrate the air of the space. In the artist's work, ceramics takes on a new function - it becomes a living organism, inviting to a listening practice where materiality and ephemerality merge. Sounds become primitive and recognisable, as if they came from a long-forgotten dialogue between man and nature.
